We honor the natural beauty of the wood by using finishes that bring out the character of the wood rather than hide it. We prefer to use native Australian recycled hardwoods such as Messmate and Tasmanian Oak to save travel mile and reduce environmental impact. Philosophy At Bombora Custom Furniture, we love to use reclaimed and recycled Australian Native hardwoods with a history and tale to tell such as from bridges, piers and old buildings. This gives our pieces a 'one of a kind' character that cannot be manufactured. We also prefer to use time-honored wood working and joinery techniques such as dovetails and box joints using hand tools such as chisels, planes and sand paper. We believe that it is this attention to the finer details that make all the difference in creating a piece that will be treasured for generations rather than something that just serves a purpose. We use finishes such as wax, danish and tung oil that bring out and protects the natural beauty of the wood whilst being easy to maintain. Using ‘plastic’ finishes means that if the surface gets scratched, the whole piece would need to be sanded back and refinished to fix the mark. With a natural finish, all that needs to be done is to rub some of the product into the area and the scratch will disappear before your eyes! The Bombora furniture design aesthetic takes inspiration from classic Nordic furniture, 70′s design, surf culture and the beauty of the Victorian surfcoast. It has clean lines, joinery detailing, natural finishes, variations in wood grain and timber to create a striking look.
