About Us There are literally dozens of suppliers in Melbourne providing Aluminum fly screen solutions, but Designer Screens are the only company that “specialists” in manufacturing and installing Timber Framed Fly screens, Fly screen Doors, Security Doors and Security Windows. Servicing all of Melbourne and surrounding area’s, Designer Screens has been operating for almost 20 years. Tremendous pride is taken in our products, service and workmanship. Maybe you have a beautiful traditional period home or recently performed an extension to it, or possibly just built a modern home using amazing timber frames in your windows and doors ? Well, you will be glad to know that you don’t need to settle for Aluminum framed fly screens that may not compliment your existing timber frames , in both the aesthetic look and colors. If your existing frames are stained or lacquered, we can match the species of your timber and of course if they are painted, you can replicate the color precisely. Therefore, by installing Timber Framed Fly screens and/or Doors, they won’t be perceived as an “afterthought” because they will simply “blend in” with your existing doors and windows. We only use “Plantation Grown” timber , also known as “Sustainable” timber . The range includes Victorian Ash, Western Red Cedar, Meranti and Merbau Window Flyscreens Designer Screens specialise in creating custom made timber flyscreens to suit your individual needs. Suppliers of “Aluminium frame” flyscreens who offer “Custom made” solutions, are limited to the “pre-fabricated” constraints of extrusion frame sizes, which may not suit your needs. Unlike timber flyscreens which can be machined to match your needs perfectly and without compromise. Maybe you would like a larger bottom frame to match your windows or you may wish to match existing flyscreen dimensions. In any case, we can accommodate your needs. And, unlike Aluminium frame flyscreens which use soft fibreglass/nylon mesh, our minimum grade of mesh is Aluminium and therefore a lot stronger and resilient to accidents. We can also supply Light Stainless Steel mesh which although having the identical transparency rate, is much stronger again. We provide timber flyscreens for all window types, including – - Double Hung (Sash) - Awnings - Casements - Sliding - Bay windows Timber Species available include – - Select Grade Victorian Ash hardwood - Western Red Cedar - Meranti - Merbau - Others available upon request Door Flyscreens Almost all forms of doors can be catered for, from your front door, back doors, laundry doors and balcony doors. Designer Screens tailor each door to your requirements to ensure they match your existing doors perfectly. This way, they will always look like a matching set with your existing door/s and not just an “afterthought”. If your existing door/s have any particular features such as - High bottom rails Paneling Pet doors Narrow stiles Chair rails Vertical features Federation features Lead lighting Plus more We will design and manufacture accordingly to ensure the fly screen doors will compliment and not detract from the aesthetic look of your home, whilst still providing their primary purpose of keeping insects out. The minimum grade of mesh used is aluminum (not fiberglass/nylon as in aluminum fly doors), but we can also offer Light Stainless Steel Mesh which is stronger again and will not tear. This mesh has the same transparency rate as aluminum but offers greater robustness and is highly recommended if you have young children or pets. Our quality doors vary in thickness from 22mm through to 38mm and we shall always provide the thickest/strongest frame possible depending upon what your existing door jamb will accept. We provide Flyscreen Doors for – Sliding Doors Hinge Doors Stacker Doors French Doors Federation style Doors Timber Species available include – - Select Grade Victorian Ash hardwood - Western Red Cedar - Meranti - Merbau - Others available upon request Security Door Flyscreens Like the idea of being able to lock your screen doors. Maybe for the purpose of security during the day or to run your evaporative cooler at night? Our Security doors afford you the opportunity to have the best of both worlds by offering a great stylish look with the assurance of safety, whilst still performing their primary purpose of stopping those pesky insects from getting in. Transparency is often an issue with clients because they don’t wish to lose their views for the sake of a Flyscreen. Fortunately, we offer the latest ranges of Security mesh styles and qualities that will maximise your view without compromising Security levels. These include, the Clear shield brand of powder coated perforated stainless steel mesh which comes with a Lifetime guarantee, together with powder coated woven style stainless steel and galvanised meshes. And of course, if you select a security door, you will need locks and handles. We offer a large range of quality locks including deadlocks and mortice locks, plus latches, handles and all associated hardware that can be installed. (see Hardware page) Or, you can provide your own and we will install for you. Our Security doors are manufactured differently from all other timber framed doors, as the timber frame is assembled around the sheet of mesh, which is embedded into the frame and then finished with a decorative bead both sides which results in a strong, impervious, attractive and purposeful door. Timber Species available include – - Select Grade Victorian Ash hardwood - Western Red Cedar - Meranti - Merbau - Others available upon request Hardware Complete the look of your great new Flyscreen Windows and Doors with complimenting hardware. We can either, supply and install all forms of locks, handles, latches, knobs, wheels, hinges and catches for you, or you can supply them and we shall install. And, especially with doors, we can match the colour and design of your existing hardware to ensure they complete the “matching set” look. The Flyscreen doors, whether they are hinged or sliding, do not absolutely need locks (as they are not Security Doors), however, in many instances our clients still like having the ability to lock their doors. Albeit, as a deterrent only. However, with Security Doors, locks are a must to complete the security aspect. Fire Rated Window and Door Flyscreens For many of our clients, bushfires are a very real risk in the area’s that they reside. Those with existing homes have taken a pro-active approach and elected to protect their existing homes and other clients building new homes are directed by various authorities that they Must take certain precautions as part of the Building Code for varying Bushfire Attack levels (BAL). Some of the precautions include screens for both doors and windows and their frames and mesh must be made of certain materials that have particular levels of resistance to bushfires. As it happens, in cases of up to and including BAL 19 our standard timber and mesh meets the Australian Standard requirements. For any BAL above 19, we can still assist you by utilising timbers and mesh that are even more bushfire resistant. Such as Merbau and stainless steel mesh. And, it is not only doors and windows that we can help with. We can also supply and install timber framed and meshed panels that are fitted to the ground level of multi storey buildings with open access underneath. In all of these cases, it is Ember attacks that we are attempting to curtail. In fact, some customers ask for their fire rated Window Flyscreens or Panels to be removable and they only install them during the hotter periods and remove them during the cooler ones. (Applicable to situations when the screens are not mandated by law). Protect your home and family with Timber framed flyscreens . The Fire rated screens look no different than standard Flyscreen Windows and Doors, as our screens already meet many BAL requirements. Whether you use Aluminium or Light Stainless Steel mesh, the transparency rate, wire gauge and aperture is identical. Therefore, your external views are not diminished. In addition to offering natural timbers with inherent properties which are even more bushfire resistant, other options include – Timber impregnated with fire retardant chemicals Or Application of fire retardant coatings or substrates
