About Daniel Gill Daniel Gill of D&S Stonemasonry was born in Brisbane and has been working in the stonemasonry industry for over 15 years. His special fields of competency include restoration of historical buildings, engineering drawing, monumental carving and the art of stone carving. In this time he has worked with sandstone, limestone, granite, marble, porphyry, slate, bluestone and basalt. Having worked on a lot of the stone for St John’s Anglican Cathedral, Brisbane, Daniel is very skilled at what he does. The traditional skills of a stonemason are increasingly scarce. Stonemasons produce intricate and breathtaking stonework. Daniel has a genuine passion for his stonemasonry work and is committed and dedicated to his profession. Started as an apprentice 1994 for Batstones Stonemasonry 1996 1st place Brisbane and Queensland Workskills Challenge Moved to QBuild in 1997, worked on Old Parliament House in Brisbane. 1997 Received an award for Stonemasonry Stage 2 1997 Finalist National Workskills Challenge 1998 Training awards Brisbane Apprentice of the Year and Queensland Apprentice of the year 1998 Completed Certificate in Stonemasonry 1998 Finalist National Apprentice of the year 2003 Moved to Adelaide to work for Heritage Stone Restorations 2006 Moved to Toowoomba and worked at Ablatio quarry in Helidon, carving the stone work for St. Johns Cathedral in Brisbane Presently working for myself and at Ablatio quarry working stone for many different projects ..................................... Recent projects include: St Johns Cathedral (includes capitals, columns, arches, bases, windows), Sculptures for Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre (2 metre high open book with early settler theme carved into face, sack of potatoes,3 pumpkins and 2 bales of hay), Sculptures for Logan City Council parks( include owl, books, apple and oranges), Coral table, 1metre high pair of thongs Awards 2010 Swell Sculpture Festival at Currumbin.
