D L Drafting provides drafting services for commercial buildings using the Autocad based software Revitt Structure Suite. Specialising in structural steel detailing, concrete panel detailing and general drafting, D L Drafting is owned and operated by Darren Lawson. Darren has 27 years experience in the commercial building and construction industry and has been providing drafting services since 2007. "The package I use includes a variety of Autocad based software. This software is what most architects, engineers, mechanical designers, electrical designers and plumbing designers use. Because these are all Autodesk products, it gives me the ability to import native formats. For example, I am able to import an air-conditioning ducting plan in electronic format into my structural steel model and check for any clashes. This format can also be applied to plumbing and electrical services. With this technique, I believe will save much valuable time and money for the fabricator and building contractors. This then becomes an absolute advantage for the building industry overall." Whilst working in the commercial building industry, Darren learnt several other skills including operating earthmoving equipment, concreting, welding and steel erection. With this experience, Darren decided to purchase some earthmoving equipment and started his own business as a bobcat operator in 1990. "Over seven years I learnt so much from a builders’ perspective that I decided to go back to working in the commercial building industry for G & K Lawson Construction." "It was about then that I started taking my drafting seriously. Purchasing my first Cad Software in 2007, I started doing structural steel detailing. By 2008, I completed several Certificates in Mechanical Drafting and the use of computer aided design software. Upgrading to a software package specifically designed for Structural Steel Detailing, I started my own business called D L Drafting (Darren Lawson Drafting) on a part time basis. With time and experience, I developed a unique style which enabled me to deliver my services quickly and effectively. I take great pride in being able to deliver my services with minimal time." Darren was born in Toowoomba. "I attended the local schools there, where I excelled in subjects such as science, mathematics, manual arts and technical drawing. After completing school I started an apprentership with my father as a carpenter. Basic drafting was one of the main subjects for carpentry, which I discovered I seemed to have a natural ability and a passion for. It was at this time that I put my skill as a very young amateur draftsman to use. My hobby during that time was flying model aircraft. A common practice in flying model aircraft was to build a balsa-wood model aircraft from scratch from a plan or a design. I read various books to study basic aerodynamics so I could not only build these model aircraft, but design them as well. I found this was extremely rewarding when I took it out for the first time and watched it fly perfectly!"
No state or commonwealth licence has been tied to this business in our public sources. This is common for unlicensed trades or for businesses that have not yet been resolved against a jurisdictional register.
Public records are uneven by nature. Stronger records make operating claims easier to inspect. Thin records make the gaps obvious. Evidence beats explanation.
See methodology for how the index resolves duplicates, tiers evidence, and decides what to publish.
