The types of rebates available depend on where you live, what system you're replacing, and what solar hot water system you intend to install. Add Capital Value to Your Home It's difficult to point to any clear cut proof that installing a quality Solar Hot Water system will increase your home's value - simply not enough homes with systems on the roof have been bought and sold to find an answer. However, there is a body of research that's been done that shows how investment in energy efficient technologies has affected house prices in the US. Studies have shown that for every $1 saved on a home's yearly power bill, the value of the home goes up between $10-$25, with the average increase around $20. Mandatory Disclosure of Energy Efficiency comes into effect in Victoria from May, 2011 & adding solar is a great way to increase your home's energy rating. For homes sold in the ACT between '05 and '06, each extra star for a house meant a 3.5% increase in the sale price. Reduce Your Carbon Footprint Solar Hot Water can drastically cut your contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Each of us shares equal responsibility to help solve the problem for ourselves on future generations. That said, the actions each of us undertake should be based on what works for us, in each case, rather than what works for everyone. For many, installing Solar Hot Water works for them. In Victoria, all new homes must have gas-boosted Solar Hot Water. This means that in time, Solar Hot Water will be the new normal. Solar Hot Water Systems We sell, install and recommend Edson Evacuated Tube Solar Hot Water Systems and Edwards Flat Panel solar water systems as we have found them to be the best performing, most reliable and most robust systems available in Australia. Solar hot water systems generally fall into two categories: Evacuated Tube & Flat Panel solar hot water systems. Evacuated Tube Collectors consist of a series of long glass vaccum sealed cylindrical tubes that contain a copper heat pipe that transfers heat into a manifold at the top of the collector. For Victoria’s climate we generally recommend Evacuated Tube systems as they have the ability achieve greater solar gain throughout our typically cold and cloudy winter however some installations lend themselves towards flat panel systems especially for homes where a roof mounted tank is more practical. Flat Plate Collectors consist of a blackened metal absorber plate within a glazed and insulated metal box (flat-plate collector). Pipes attached to the absorber plate carry liquid that is heated by the sun. In a direct heating system, water is heated as it circulates through the flat, glazed panels. In indirect systems, the sun’s energy heats a glycol fluid that cannot freeze, which, in turn, heats the water in the tank. We'll help you figure out whether it's a good idea for you. We as a company are committed to providing you with the best sustainable solutions available - not just the ones that make us the most money.
