About Us The Lockyer Valley and Somerset regions are notorious for poor television reception due to the distance from transmitters, undulating ground, hills and terrain. This poor reception is now more noticeable with digital tv signals. With the old analogue signals, interference or poor signal may have resulted in a ‘snowy’ picture, ‘ghosting’, lines or a reduction in sound quality, however it was still possible to watch a program. With digital transmission, interference of many kinds or poor signal will have the same end result - pixilation (or freezing) and loss of audio, making it impossible to watch the television. As digital television signals are transmitted using different technology to anologue, specific antennas are required to best capture the signal. It is also important to use higher quality cables such as RG6 quad shield coaxial and connectors such as F-type compression, as these also effect the quality of the signal. With poor digital reception the problem can be any number of things and it is therefore important to use a qualified technician to diagnose all of the problems in the system not simply just replace an old antenna. It is possible to pick up some digital channels on an old anologue antenna but the signal may be poor and will usually only be a couple of channels. New digital ready antennas use improved technology and better connections resulting in a stronger signal with less interference. The following are some of the preferred antennas we use in our region depending on which transmitter we are wanting to receive Testing Equipment Esk antennas use the latest sophisticated testing equipment. Currently we are using the Satcatcher 12MM-ST- combo field strength meter. We diagnose the following: - Signal strength - dBuv - MER (Modulation Error Ratio) - BER (Bit Error Ratio) - C/N (Carrier to Noise Ratio) - Multiplex Flatness
