BACKGROUND First becoming involved in stonemasonry in 1989, Les Futo was very fortunate to have been involved in the restoration of the Scotts Church Melbourne where he was taught and inspired by Master Mason, Hungarian born Bill Zambo. This became a launching pad for a 20 + year career in stonemasonry which has had Les working on some of Melbourne's finest historical buildings including St Pats Cathederal, St Michaels, Melbourne GPO and The Old Melbourne Gaol. TERRAZZO First catching his eye in a documentary in 2002, Les was immediately excited by the design and colour possibilities offered by the time-honoured process of terrazzo. Coincidently he met a local retired Italian expert who agreed to sell his trove of marble stock and machinery – a man who was happy to answer all the technical questions over a coffee. Futostone have since opened up new ground in commercial and domestic applications and they are grateful to those who have shared their accumulated knowledge and they support the free flow of information in all the trades. CREATIVITY WITH STONE Established in 2000, Futostone draws on many years of practical collective experience in stonemasonry, always considering new found applications whilst maintaining a strong commitment to traditional craft values. Futostone invites builders, architects and homeowners to collaborate throughout the design process in the search for a truly individual product.
