Typically, 130mm wide and 19mm thick boards are the largest that can be manufactured from solid wood without compromising the structure of the flooring (some manufacturers produce wider boards using proprietary milling techniques). There is, however, no standard size which will perform well in every environment. For contemporary construction techniques, the most significant characteristic of solid wood floors is that they are not recommended to be installed directly over concrete. Whenever Mega Floors is installing raw solid timber direct installation to concrete with plywood recommended 18mm thick, over existing wooden floor or yellow tongue. All timber must be acclimatised inside house before installation begins. Once Floor is laid, clamped up tightly and nailed into place. It is left for a further few days before it is sanded back and the coating of your choice is applied. i.e. polyurethane or water based low high sheen gloss. We highly recommend no one to walk on area after a minimum of 48 hours after final coat is applied.
