ABOUT Michael completed his upholstery apprenticeship in 1984 after attending Ultimo Technical College. He then relocated to the Gold Coast at the age of twenty one, and opened his first upholstery shop, Currumbin Upholstery. He proceeded to master the craft and become a leading business in the art of recovering fine furniture. Many years later after much experience and confidence, Michael opened his business under a new name, The Lounge. This became a well respected custom upholstery establishment. Michael specialised in the manufacture of custom, contemporary designs, which attracted the likes of companies like Raptis, The Sunland Group, DBI Interiors, POD Interior Design, Altran Shopfitting and many, many more. Michaels worked on projects such as manufacturing all the upholstery pieces for the Q1 display units, Holiday Inn Surfers Paradise complete foyer, numerous restaurants and cafes. Now as Michael Phillips Designs , he has produced work for Bonita Bonita, Canteen Coffee, Palour Coffee, Sofitel foyer, Brisbane, just to name a few.
