Scott Dickie, principal of SDC, has been designing homes in NSW since 1997. Prior to devoting all of his attention to design, he was a licensed builder: developing his craft from the carpentry trade. Scott completed the bachelor of design in architecture and has worked with architectural firms since 2005. Passive solar design SDC focuses on ecological responsibility by reducing energy consumption through passive solar design - homes that respond to our climate and maintain thermal comfort. To achieve these targets, we evaluate: climate shading orientation insulation solar heating glazing passive cooling thermal mass open living areas roof openings material durability life cycles . When happy clients tell us that mechanical heating & cooling is rarely used, their comfort levels are better now than ever before, spaces have plenty of light and their energy costs have diminished, this confirms that our efforts in planning have been purposeful. Material selection and the use of sustainable building products are part of the design process. We keep up-to-date with current thinking and pass this knowledge through each project. Adaptable housing & 'granny' flats Scott Design + Consulting specialise in adaptable housing for older Australians complying with AS4299, allowing people to live in their homes for longer. We regulate our designs using the benchmarks set by Livable Housing Australia. Our designs cater for those looking to improve their mobility around the home. It is important for professional designers to provide spaces that cater for individual circumstances and requirements, not only for the present, but also their future mobility needs. Pricing SDC pricing is competitive but that doesn't mean compromise, rather we endeavor to discover the balance between your budget, your needs and your wish list. Consulting Because Scott has extensive on-site experience and a degree in construction management, he is the best person to consult with your builder. Even if you have not engaged SDC for your design, we are happy to liaise with your builder and resolve issues that have developed during the construction period. Note to builders How often have you received construction drawings from your client and there's not enough information to start building! You find yourself wasting time figuring out all the missing measurements, only to discover that it can't be built the way it's drawn. We get positive feedback from builders because all the details are there, making the tendering process quicker. Our documentation can include itemised schedules that assist with quantity surveys and cost control. And when you need to request information, you will be talking to a person who understands building, making life easier. Why use a professional designer like SDC? From our experience most clients have a tight budget and building is an expensive exercise. Therefore, it would be logical to have someone consider how your life will be affected by the spaces that you will soon live in. This will give you the confidence that your new home is worth all the expense. It comes down to what a person values and their own expectations. There are some who spend more on door fixtures than on designing the home. Our aim is to provide an experience that's rewarding with benefits that lasts long into the future through good design. Public records are uneven by nature. Stronger records make operating claims easier to inspect. Thin records make the gaps obvious. Evidence beats explanation.
