Welcome to Tillet Granite Over a century ago, Mr John Tillett migrated from Cornwall, England and by the end of the 1800's had commenced his own business, becoming a leading stone mason in the colony of South Australia creating magnificent monuments for our early settlers. His grandson Stephen acquired the business in 1947, and incorporated the present company S D Tillett Memorials Pty Ltd, which today is managed by John Tillett's great grandson Christopher. The retail monumental operation is in fact conducted from the very same premises on the corner of West Terrace and Sturt Street Adelaide, where John Tillett commenced his apprenticeship in 1871. Property was acquired and a large factory was constructed within 15 minutes of the Adelaide Central Business District at Coglin Street, Hindmarsh in 1952. Since this date there has been an ongoing commitment to continually upgrade the granite processing equipment to the latest technology available. A Thibaut T55 fully automatic edge profiling and polishing machine was commissioned early this year and a Thibaut 122 fully automatic slab polishing machine will be commissioned in December this year, consequently we are fully committed to bringing quality Australian products direct to you. Further expansion in the early eighties of the family interests saw the Quarrying of Imperial Black Granite at Black Hill, South Australia which is continued to this day by wholly owned subsidiary company Calca Quarries Pty Ltd. Public records are uneven by nature. Stronger records make operating claims easier to inspect. Thin records make the gaps obvious. Evidence beats explanation.
